Michael Nugent Ltd provided a full Design & Build service for the Mechanical & Electrical services installation for this prestigious University project as well as coordinating the BIM Process for both M&E services to Level 2 standard. The redevelopment of the UCL Faculty of Laws building joined together and revitalised the relationship between the Grade II listed Bentham House and its neighbouring Gideon Schreier Wing. A major refurbishment and extension of the two existing buildings that form the Faculty’s home. Bentham House was built in 1957 as the headquarters of the National Union of General and Municipal Workers. It was originally called Thorne House. In 1963 it was purchased by University College London and renamed Bentham House after the philosopher Jeremy Bentham.

Bentham House incorporates green features including bio-diverse roofs with photovoltaic arrays, and in support of UCL’s sustainability agenda, the new building achieved a ‘BREEAM Very Good’ rating. The new building also includes cutting-edge teaching and event spaces with greater capacity, new student and staff common rooms, offices, meeting spaces and computer cluster rooms, along with a specialist study suite for graduate research students.

The redesign of the space is a response to modern methods of learning, and an expanding body of students and staff, enhancing the experience of university life. Michael Nugent Ltd are proud to have completed works at the UCL Faculty of Laws, adding to our ever growing repertoire of educational projects.
