Michael Nugent will be providing Mechanical Works for the new Daisy Hill Hospital Paediatric Unit

Daisy Hill Hospital, Newry is to receive a new £8.4m purpose built centre of excellence for paediatric surgery as part of a £15 million development plan to modernise hospital services for children and young people across the Southern Trust. Michael Nugent will be providing full mechanical services for this esteemed project and we are proud to be contributing to the children’s healthcare sector in Northern Ireland.

The new children’s unit will be the centre for all planned paediatric surgery for the Southern Trust. The unit will be located on Level 6 of the hospital which will be redeveloped to include a new child-friendly theatre suite and recovery area, co-located beside a 20 bedded children’s ward, and a dedicated area for paediatric outpatients and ambulatory care – all custom designed to support the delivery of the most up to date clinical standards for the treatment and care of children and young people.

In addition to this £8.4m project, Michael Nugent is also providing mechanical services to the new Paediatric Unit at Craigavon Area Hospital, which comes as part of the £15m development scheme. Health Minister, Jim Wells described the cash injection as “excellent news” for children and young people in the Southern Trust Area, especially in “these hard economic times.” He went on to say: “I see this as a hugely positive development for both Daisy Hill and Craigavon Hospitals. This investment in the local health estate is a fitting tribute to the dedication and professionalism of all staff and will result in world class services for the children of the district.” The work at both Daisy Hill and Craigavon is currently expected to be completed in 2017.
