Newry Leisure Centre Proves Huge Success

Our recent project at Newry Leisure Centre has been described as, “just what Newry needed,” after its successful public opening.

Newry LC2

It’s only been a few weeks since it was completed, but Newry Leisure Centre has already gained a sterling reputation.

Opening to the public with a family fun day at the end of April, the new facility proved an immediate success, with one customer commenting that it’s, “just what Newry needed.”

Offering a 25m swimming pool, learners’ pool and leisure pool with a flume slide, the centre provides ideal space for people of all ages. A spectator’s area, steam room, sauna and changing village are also available, as well as multi-purpose sports and training rooms. With such varied and enjoyable facilities, it’s no wonder Newry Leisure Centre is already proving popular with those in the area.

Success has also been measured in the additional swim lessons added to the leisure centre’s programme. Due to unprecedented demand from the public, staff will be delivering four times the amount of lessons originally planned, having enrolled over 320 pupils in 34 classes per week.

But the centre hasn’t just won the approval of the public. Its efficient design and construction have enabled it to meet the criteria of government and charity accreditation bodies, including Disability Sport NI and Newry 2020‘s low carbon goals.

Michael Nugent is proud to have contributed to this, having incorporated accessibility and environmental factors into all aspects of our mechanical service delivery. We supplied accessible fittings for disabled toilets, shower blocks and changing areas, and selected energy efficient mechanical installations to reduce carbon emissions.

We are delighted to see Newry Leisure Centre’s success and wish its staff all the best for the future.
