The new and improved Outpatients Department at Ayr University Hospital is getting ready to open its doors to its first patients after its completion and handover this week.

Michael Nugent provided full mechanical installation for the project, which involved the extension and development of the existing Outpatients Department at Ayr University Hospital.

The development will be a major improvement in the healthcare available to residents in the Ayrshire and Arran districts, following a review that highlighted the need to improve community outpatient care in the area. Not only will the facility fulfill healthcare demands, but will provide dental facilities, a renal satellite unit and podiatry services.

Based on the southerly outskirts of Ayr, the University Hospital currently offers medical and surgical services to day-procedure patients and inpatients, as well as operating as the main Accident and Emergency department in South Ayrshire. Yet the split level extension of the Outpatients Department in the north east of the site will further enhance the range of care the hospital is able to provide.

Working alongside Main Contractors Heron Bros, we supplied full mechanical services to the building, including heating; public health; medical gas; renal and specialist water; pneumatic tubes; dental air; VRF Air Conditioning; supply and extract ventilation and thermal insulation. We also completed electrical works in the form of full BMS installation.

The project involved closing a section of the main hospital lobby to enable extension works to take place. Therefore, we took particular care in planning our service installation to reduce further disruption to hospital users and the public.

We’re proud to have been involved in a project that will so greatly improve the healthcare provision for the communities of Ayrshire and Arran.
