Newtownards Leisure Centre Progressing Well

March 26, 2018

The new Newtownards Leisure Centre in Co. Down is making excellent progress with Michael Nugent Ltd well underway on site.

The building’s ground floor and first floor levels are developing well with the first fix, lagging has commenced on both these floors and is advancing swiftly. All air handling units are on site with 10 of the 12 now situated in their final position. The prefabricated pipework of the plant room has been delivered to site and the installation into its final position ongoing.

The new centre is being built on the Diary Hall playing fields site, with the existing structure on William Street remaining open until the new facility is ready. The Leisure Centre will represent an investment of more than £30million and Ards and North Down Borough Council say it showcases the council’s commitment to improved health and well being within the Borough. This state-of-the-art building will offer a wide range of sports, recreation and family leisure facilities including a 6 lane gala pool and 20m teaching pool, high quality health & fitness suite amenities including a gym, sauna and steam room. In addition a 6 court sports hall, dance & cycle/spin studios, party rooms and an indoor soft play with cafe areas. The new build also offers extensive outdoor facilities, catering for a much wider crowd than the average leisure centre. An independent outdoor covered sports pitch will be constructed, as well as an outdoor play area, a skate park, and an outdoor mountain bike area.

Michael Nugent Ltd is providing a full mechanical services installation for this rejuvenating project in the heart of the Ards area. Works are aiming to be completed before the end of 2018 with images below showing the latest updates from the site along with the arrival of the prefabrication. Here at Michael Nugent we have our own prefabrication facility at the headquarters in Pomeroy, providing mechanical specific process plant and pipework. Offsite prefabrication offers a number of advantages including; reduced onsite labour numbers, reduced cost, improved quality, just-in-time delivery to sites with limited access, reduced H&S issues and considerable reduction in waste. Due to the size of our fabrication facility, prefabricated modules and plant rooms can be stored off site until the building or project is ready to accept them.
